In September 2008, Sergeant Travis William Turner, while intoxicated, made a phone call to his ex-wife during which he threatened to kill Lehi Police Chief Chad Smith. The ex-wife recorded the call and reported it to Lehi police. Turner was placed on administrative leave the following day and was subsequently fired in December 2008 for misconduct. The Utah Police Officer Standards and Training Council suspended his certification for one year. Additionally, his ex-wife obtained a protective order against him in April 2009. Turner had been with the Lone Peak Police Department since 1998 and also served as a reserve officer for Lehi police.
