In September 2020, Officer Leibfried responded to a domestic assault call and, believing he heard gunshots, fired six rounds through a closed apartment door, striking unarmed resident Jared Fyle in the back. Fyle sustained serious injuries, including a bullet lodged in his shoulder. Leibfried was charged with assault and firearm offenses but was acquitted in April 2022.
