Former Police Chief Tyler Norris was indicted on federal charges for using excessive force during an arrest on June 30, 2021. He allegedly assaulted a suspect, identified as I.M., by kneeing him multiple times in the abdomen, causing injury. Additionally, Norris was charged with making misleading statements to investigators regarding the incident. His federal trial ended in a hung jury in April 2023, and he faces a pending assault charge in Mobile County Circuit Court.
