In August 2010, Undersheriff David Larson shot and killed a horse on private property without attempting to contact the owners or brand inspectors. The owners, Chris and Larry Bentley, filed a lawsuit against Larson and the Sheriff’s Office, alleging constitutional violations. The court ruled in favor of the Bentleys, finding that the Sheriff’s Office’s policy led to the violation of the owners’ rights.
