In June 1998, Undersheriff Stein, along with Sheriff Jett, seized a residence as a crime scene without a valid search warrant. This action led to a lawsuit alleging violations of the Fourth Amendment. The jury found that the officers reasonably relied on the District Attorney’s advice, granting them qualified immunity.
