In 2015, a Roosevelt police officer responded to a call involving a suicidal man who had escaped from a hospital and was holding a gun to his own head. As the man was surrendering the weapon, the officer discharged two bean bag rounds and a live round, resulting in the man’s death. The estate of the deceased filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force, which was settled for $950,000.
