In September 2019, the city settled a $1.55 million lawsuit with 15 current and former female deputies who alleged sexual harassment while working in the county jail. The complaint detailed that male inmates groped female deputies and masturbated in front of them, behavior stemming from a lack of protective structures for the women during their workday. The lawsuit highlighted severe misconduct and the department’s failure to safeguard its employees.

In June 2023, a SWAT team mistakenly raided the wrong Denver apartment, traumatizing a family with two young daughters. Despite the family’s protests that they were in the wrong location, officers detained them at gunpoint and continued the search. The operation resulted in the family requiring intensive therapy to overcome the trauma. A lawsuit was filed alleging constitutional rights violations and excessive force by at least 10 officers involved in the incident.
