In 2019, a Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy made an inappropriate comment on his personal social media account, which was deemed uncalled for and inappropriate by Sheriff Chris Malphrus. The deputy faced disciplinary actions including demotion, pay cut, suspension without pay, extended probation, remedial training and counseling, and replacement of his administrative vehicle with a marked vehicle. The deputy, a 30-year veteran with an exemplary emergency services career, had no previous disciplinary actions under Sheriff Malphrus’s administration.
