On July 14, 2021, a Barron County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a critical incident in Mikana, Wisconsin. The deputy responded to a wellness check where an armed individual raised a firearm at the deputy, who then fired at the subject. The subject was struck and air-lifted to a regional hospital in critical but stable condition. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave pending investigation, as per department policy.
