    In 2018, a former inmate, Smith, alleged that she was sexually harassed and assaulted by staff members at the Androscoggin County Jail. She claimed that a corrections officer repeatedly called her derogatory names and that another officer grabbed her by the shirt and crotch area, pushing her into a cell. An internal investigation by Chief Deputy William Gagne found no credible evidence to support Smith’s claims, and no disciplinary actions were taken against the officers involved.

She claimed that after complaining about a colleague’s return to the day shift, she faced retaliatory actions, including new protocols requiring her to work early and skip breaks, disciplinary write-ups, and reassignment to new duties. The court found that Levesque failed to establish a prima facie case for her claims, and the lawsuit was dismissed.
