In February 2024, an unnamed Columbus Police officer was involved in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Chase Ditter during a welfare check. The officer reportedly shot Ditter, who was holding a knife inside his home. The Nebraska State Patrol conducted an investigation into the incident, and the officer was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome.
