On February 22, 2020, an off-duty San Diego Police officer was reported to have made racially charged statements, including ‘I kill [Black people] for a living. I am a cop,’ while intoxicated near Old Town. The officer was arrested for public intoxication, and an internal investigation found violations of department policies. The officer is no longer with the department.
