In 2019, the family of Brian Cody Waldron filed a lawsuit against the Town of New Milford and three unnamed police officers, alleging negligence and improper prisoner security procedures. Waldron, a 20-year-old, died of an opioid overdose after being released from police custody. The lawsuit claimed that the officers failed to assess Waldron’s mental status, recognize signs of potential self-harm, and did not take him for an emergency examination, contributing to his death.
