Officer Robinson, also Black, alleged that during his training, he was excluded from eating lunch with white trainees and was subjected to derogatory comments about his military service. He reported being disciplined more harshly than other officers and was belittled for his appearance. Robinson also claimed that he was retaliated against for reporting racial discrimination within the department. These allegations were included in the 2017 lawsuit, which resulted in a $1.4 million settlement in 2021.
