In March 2021, Officer Vidal Contreras shot Seth Greenstone, a man who appeared to be attempting self-harm with a box cutter. Contreras’ body camera footage showed that he fired his weapon after ordering Greenstone to drop the knife. Greenstone was shot in the head and suffered severe injuries, leading to a lawsuit filed by his mother alleging excessive force and violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
