In 2019, Officer Lolotai unlawfully arrested Sammie Lawrence, a disabled Black man, by forcibly taking his walking aid and bringing him to the ground. This incident led to a $95,000 civil settlement paid by the City of Boulder. Additionally, Lolotai faced internal investigations for promoting ‘use-of-force Fridays’ on social media. He resigned during the investigation in September 2020.
