Former Deputy Zachary Wester was convicted in July 2021 for planting drugs on individuals during traffic stops. He faced nearly 70 charges, including violations of Florida’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization Act (RICO). In November 2024, a three-judge panel overturned his RICO conviction but upheld other convictions, leading to a resentencing hearing. Wester was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison and is currently held in a Colorado facility.
