Gary Cross – Madison County Sheriff’s Department

In July 2015, Sergeant Gary Cross allegedly sexually assaulted Deputy Sonya Massey by grabbing her, pulling her tightly against his body, and attempting to kiss her. Prior to the assault, Cross had searched Massey’s phone without permission and requested nude photos. Massey reported that Cross interfered with her backup during a potentially dangerous call, placing her life in jeopardy. These incidents were part of a broader pattern of sexual harassment and discrimination within the department.
