Gene Martin – Bradford Police Department

Former Police Chief Gene Martin was accused in a 2020 lawsuit of using excessive force during an August 2009 incident. Plaintiff James Hart alleged that Martin shoved and head-butted him during a property dispute. The lawsuit also claimed that Martin harassed Hart by stopping him multiple times without cause and misappropriated Hart’s tax payment while serving on the Bradford selectboard. The Vermont Supreme Court affirmed the dismissal of these claims in 2022.
