Gregory Sneed – Central Connecticut State University Police Department

Former Chief of Police Gregory Sneed was implicated in mishandling a sexual assault allegation within the department. In 2016, a female officer reported being sexually assaulted by a male colleague. Sneed, upon learning of the allegation, decided not to conduct an internal investigation, citing a lack of information and cooperation from the complainant, despite never contacting her. This decision violated CCSU and Title IX policies. An independent investigation in 2018 found that the department had a ‘fraternity’ type atmosphere and that required sexual harassment training wasn’t taken seriously. Sneed was placed on leave following these findings.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
