Deputy James Johnson was implicated in the 2013 death of Jackie McBeth, who died from restraint asphyxia while in custody. Despite McBeth being unarmed and fully restrained, officers, including Johnson, continued to apply pressure on his upper torso while he was lying on his stomach. The court determined that such actions presented a substantial and unnecessary risk of death, leading to allegations of excessive force and inadequate training within the department.
