Jason Shireman – Rogersville Police Department

Case Timeline

March 14, 2011
On March 14, 2011, Officer Shireman was involved in an incident at the residence of a Rogersville citizen, Mr. Rigas. Shireman allegedly used excessive force during an attempted arrest, including shoving Rigas against a wall, striking him with a metal baton, and breaking a glass door window, causing injuries to Rigas’s head and arm. Rigas filed a lawsuit against Shireman and the Town of Rogersville, alleging violations of his Fourth Amendment rights and state-law tort claims. The court denied Shireman’s motion for summary judgment, allowing the case to proceed. The Lauderdale County grand jury ultimately refused to return an indictment against Rigas. Shireman is no longer employed by the Rogersville Police Department.
