Chicopee police sergeant Jeffrey Godere was fired in 2018 after an internal investigation found he had forwarded an unauthorized photo of a homicide victim’s body to other officers and then lied about it. Godere was one of several officers implicated in the sharing of graphic crime scene photos from a 2011 murder, and he was terminated for untruthfulness and misconduct. In 2020, however, the Civil Service Commission reinstated him (demoted to patrolman), finding the punishment too severe in light of his record and the circumstances, though his actions were condemned as serious misconduct.
