In May 2024, Officer Jerry Douglas Cannon Jr. was arrested and charged with using his position for personal gain and misuse of confidential information. He allegedly accessed confidential police databases to inform individuals about impending search warrants and purchased marijuana while on duty in a patrol vehicle for his girlfriend, receiving payment for the drugs. Following his arrest, Cannon was terminated from the West Blocton Police Department.
