Written by In October 2013, civilian employee John Gerald Shiew was arrested on multiple charges, including rape, aggravated sexual assault of a child, child abuse, enticing a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and furnishing alcohol to a minor. At the time of his arrest, Shiew had been working in the Carbon County Jail for six months. Previously, in December 2010, his peace officer certification was suspended for three years after he lied during an administrative investigation into a sexual relationship with a woman under supervision of family drug court. Following the 2010 incident, Shiew was terminated from the sheriff’s office.
