On December 30, 2018, Deputy John Shilts Jr., a seven-year veteran of the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI) after driving southbound in the northbound lane of Highway A near Richmond Township. A fellow deputy had to swerve to avoid a collision. Shilts was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
