Officer Joseph Horton, an eight-year veteran of the Nicholasville Police Department and a sniper for the Special Response Team, was involved in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Desman LaDuke on October 22, 2022. Horton shot LaDuke after a nearly three-hour standoff during a welfare check, claiming LaDuke pointed firearms at officers. A grand jury declined to indict Horton in August 2023.
