In April 2024, retired Sergeant Kenneth Kovac was arrested and charged with false personation and disorderly conduct after creating a Facebook page parodying then-Deputy Chief Brian West. Kovac alleged that West and other department leaders retaliated against him for exercising his First Amendment rights. In January 2025, a Cook County judge dismissed the charges. Kovac has filed a lawsuit claiming violations of his constitutional rights and seeks punitive damages and attorney fees.
