In April 2014, Lt. Lari Hanenberg participated in the forcible takedown of Philippa McCully, a 21-year-old college student, in a holding cell. Hanenberg, along with Deputy Kimberly Farrell, grabbed McCully’s legs, causing her to fall onto the concrete floor, resulting in serious injuries including a torn ACL and knee fracture. The incident led to a lawsuit that was settled for $675,000 in 2018. Hanenberg was named in the lawsuit, and some deputies involved were disciplined, though specific details were not disclosed.
