Malikul Aziz – Newark Police Department

Detective Malikul Aziz, a former cadet and current Newark detective, filed a whistleblower lawsuit in June 2022 alleging retaliation from superiors for his role in a class action suit regarding unpaid overtime during his cadet training in 2017. Aziz claimed that after participating in the lawsuit, he faced disciplinary actions, including suspension and confiscation of his firearm, which prevented him from trying out for the SWAT team. The lawsuit demands compensatory and punitive damages for back pay, missed career opportunities, and emotional distress.
