Mark Garcia – Costilla County Sheriff’s Office

Deputy Mark Garcia was terminated in July 2022 for deceitful conduct. On June 19, 2022, he falsely reported responding to a 911 call about an armed trespassing incident in Chama, Colorado. GPS data from his body-worn camera revealed he never approached the location. His actions led to a dangerous situation where backup deputies were nearly shot by the homeowner who believed no law enforcement had responded. The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office reported Garcia to the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board for deceitfulness, but his certification was not revoked. He was later employed by the Springer Police Department in New Mexico in May 2023.

Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

  • Make threats of any kind
  • Share private information such as personal emails, home addresses, or phone numbers

Violation of these rules will result in immediate content removal and possible account suspension.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
