Michael F. Castro – Mantua Police Department

In March 2021, Police Chief Michael F. Castro was fired following a heated argument with then-Mayor Michael Johnson and a councilwoman. The dispute centered on pressure from the mayor for officers to issue more speeding tickets to address budget shortfalls, which Castro resisted. During the meeting, Castro reportedly yelled at the mayor and made statements perceived as intimidating, leading to his termination. The Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council investigated the incident and suspended Castro’s law enforcement certification for three months, starting from his termination date.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
