In July 2020, Officer Nicholas Piotrowski and other officers responded to a domestic incident where 64-year-old Joseph Ahr refused entry without a warrant. Piotrowski threw Ahr across the porch, slammed him face-down, and pepper-sprayed him at close range. Ahr, who had one working lung, died 18 days later from respiratory failure. Piotrowski was indicted for misconduct in 2023.
