Officer Golding was involved in the fatal shooting of Brandon Roberts on January 5, 2020. Roberts, who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis, was shot after allegedly advancing towards officers with a knife. A wrongful death lawsuit filed by Roberts’ family accused Officer Golding of using unreasonable deadly force and violating Roberts’ rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act. In August 2020, the state attorney general’s office cleared Officer Golding of criminal wrongdoing, stating the use of deadly force was justified. As of February 2022, Officer Golding remained employed with the department.
