Officer Austin Magness – Bloomington Police Department

In September 2022, Officer Austin Magness was involved in the arrest of Indiana University graduate student Moses Baryoh over an unpaid parking fee. Magness and another officer forcibly arrested Baryoh at his apartment, leading to a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging violations of Baryoh’s Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights. The university settled the lawsuit in September 2023, and the IUPD Chief was dismissed for failing to follow mandatory review protocols during the investigation. Important Community Guidelines

It is strictly against our rules to:

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
