In December 2018, Officer Dennis Barnette, who is white, used a racial slur during an arrest outside the Brownstone nightclub in Roselawn. He was suspended for seven days and placed on an employee intervention plan. Barnette subsequently filed a lawsuit alleging unfair punishment and employment discrimination.
