In 2021, Officer Dennis Maude was involved in an incident where he allegedly used excessive force during the arrest of Eric Virrueta. Virrueta claimed that after a brief hesitation to remove his hand from his pocket, Officer Maude physically took him to the ground and used force that was not objectively reasonable. This led to a lawsuit alleging Fourth Amendment violations. The court found sufficient facts to support an excessive force claim against Officer Maude.
