Written by On January 6, 2020, Officer Jared Carlson arrested hotel owner Danyale Blackmore at the My Place Hotel in Hurricane. Blackmore was charged with interfering with an officer and disorderly conduct. She alleged that Carlson used excessive force during the arrest and that she was subjected to an illegal strip search at the jail. In March 2021, Blackmore filed a lawsuit against Carlson and the Hurricane Police Department, claiming violations of her constitutional rights. In January 2024, a jury found Blackmore not guilty on both charges, leading her to file a second lawsuit against the city for malicious prosecution. The case is ongoing as of March 2025.
