In July 2018, Officer Jim Atkinson was involved in an incident where he impersonated a police officer by conducting an unauthorized traffic stop using a city vehicle equipped with blue lights and a siren. At the time, his Alabama Peace Officer Standards and Training (APOST) credentials had lapsed.
