In December 2020, Officer Marcello Errigo filed a lawsuit alleging that he was subjected to retaliation by Sheriff Richard Berdnik for endorsing political rivals in the 2010 election. Errigo claimed he was denied promotions, faced pay reductions, and was removed from specialized units as a result of his political affiliations. Berdnik and the county dismissed the allegations as false and frivolous.
