In 2016, Officer Thompson was investigated by Internal Affairs after questioning the department’s tactics during the violent crackdown on protesters following Alton Sterling’s death. While federal lawsuits alleged multiple abuses by officers, Thompson was the only one investigated for challenging the department’s actions.
