In July 2017, Officer Fernandez was involved in the arrest of Johnny Wheatcroft in Glendale. During the arrest, Fernandez slammed Wheatcroft face-first onto the hot asphalt, leading to allegations of excessive force and a subsequent lawsuit accusing the officers of torture.
