Officer Matthew White – South Kingstown Police Department

In February 2023, Officer Matthew White was involved in the arrest of Claire Hall, a Newport attorney, who alleged that she was unlawfully arrested and physically injured during the incident. Hall claimed that Officer White used excessive force, including forcefully throwing her to the ground and placing a knee on her body before handcuffing her. She filed a federal lawsuit against Officer White and the South Kingstown Police Department, alleging assault and violation of her rights. The lawsuit was filed in September 2023 and is currently pending.
