Officer Maurice Taylor III – Gastonia Police Department

In October 2021, Officer Maurice Taylor III was involved in the arrest of Joshua Rohrer, a disabled veteran, for alleged panhandling. During the arrest, Officer Taylor tased Rohrer’s service dog, Sunshine, who later died after being hit by a car. Rohrer filed a federal lawsuit in July 2023 against Officer Taylor, alleging excessive force and civil rights violations. The lawsuit is ongoing.
