Officer Name Withheld – Hartselle Police Department

On June 30, 2024, at approximately 2:30 AM, a Hartselle police officer initiated a traffic stop on Highway 31 near the intersection of Highway 36 after observing a vehicle exceeding the speed limit. The driver, an off-duty Decatur police officer, admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that night. Instead of arresting the driver for DUI, the Hartselle officer arranged to transport him to a nearby residence. Upon review, it was determined that the officer did not act in accordance with the policies and standards of the Hartselle Police Department and was disciplined accordingly. This incident raises concerns about preferential treatment and the impartial enforcement of the law.
