Involved in the 1996 investigation of Josette Wright’s murder, Castaldo was accused of coercing confessions, threatening and manipulating witnesses, fabricating evidence, and concealing exculpatory information to secure convictions. In 2014, he retired from the department. In February 2015, Castaldo was indicted on a felony charge for failing to disclose his use of force on a person in custody the previous year. He pled guilty to harassment in the second degree in February 2017.
