Ralph Evangelous – Wilmington Police Department

In August 2022, former Chief Ralph Evangelous was named in a lawsuit alleging systemic gender discrimination during his tenure. The complaint accused him of repeatedly stating he could not pay a female crime lab director in accordance with a market study because it would ‘upset the male Captains,’ and that he didn’t want to ’emasculate’ male employees. These allegations pointed to a pervasive negative attitude towards women in the department.
