Randy Herrera – Costilla County Sheriff’s Office

Undersheriff Randy Herrera was charged in January 2020 with assaulting an inmate in the county jail. The charges included official oppression, assault by strangulation, knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury, and official misconduct. Herrera resigned from his position on the day Sheriff Danny Sanchez intended to terminate him. Prior to this incident, Herrera had no recorded complaints of excessive force. His advisement hearing was scheduled for February 4, 2020.
