In 2012, Chief Ray Leggett conducted a lie detector test on his son, who was under investigation for credit card fraud, and shared the results with the investigating officer. The Alaska Police Standards Council found this action demonstrated a lack of good moral character and revoked his certification in June 2017. Despite the revocation, Leggett continued to serve as Skagway’s police chief, as Alaska law exempts chief administrative officers from the certification requirement.
