Written by Former Sheriff Rene Rodriguez was convicted on November 22, 2019, of four counts of lewd conduct with a child under 16, one count of sexual abuse of a minor, and one count of rape. The abuse began when the victim was 9 years old and continued until she was 17. Rodriguez was arrested in April 2019 and resigned from his position as sheriff shortly thereafter. He faced up to life in prison at his sentencing on March 20, 2020. Additionally, Rodriguez was accused of molesting a different girl in Twin Falls County in 1998, when the child was 4 years old, and was charged with sexual abuse of a minor in that case, with a trial set for March 3, 2020.
